Eleven club members, some with their families turned up for our September litter pick on the river Alde and Lantern marsh on Sunday 19th September. Groups were ferried to various parts of the river by boat armed with bags and pickers, some working on Lantern Marsh from both directions, others from Barbers Point down towards Slaughden. Full rubbish bags were left on the saltings to be collected by boat. By lunch time 35 full bin bags had arrived at Slaughden to be deposited in an empty industrial waste bin. The majority of the litter collected was comprised of plastic bottles, bags, food wrappers, party balloons, nylon rope and mesh, with odd items of clothing thrown in for good measure.
The weather was kind to us and it was very satisfying to see every one enjoying the late summer sunshine, renewing old acquaintances and making new friends, whilst doing our bit to help to try to keep the river rubbish free.
